Perry is Perry is a Chicago native who was she was born into Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Perry made her debut on television in the role of Jackie Harris, a character played by her mother in her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne. Her parents, however, did not want her to perform until she turned an adult fearing the effect of stress. Perry says she didn't want to be an actor in high school but decided to take up playing as a way to make friends at Northwestern University when she switched from Boston University. Perry managed to get tiny TV roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent when she finished her degree. The feeling of homelessness, however, brought her back to California and she returned performing in the stage. The Other Place was performed by her mother and her on Broadway in 2013. Perry was in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie as well as Kevin McKidd. This was staged at West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry was in nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. In 2017, she starred in an recurring role in The ABC Political thriller Scandal with her father. In the same year, she was cast as a young character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger version of her mother's role. She got the part through an open audition despite being connected to the role.
